About the Project
Due to globalization, rapid growth in technology and multicultural interaction, the Tanzanian culture through the work of traditional music is increasingly forgotten. The lack of popularity of the traditional music has caused many youths to imitate bad morals, not being proud of their history, to underestimate the strength of their traditions, unable to protect the heritage left by our ancestors. It is evident that, the popular music that has caught the ears of many people includes Bongo flavor and a mixture of Bongo, Nigerian and South African Flavors.

Uswazi Born Talented (UBT) has found through its experience working with local artists that, many traditional music artists have not been given the opportunity to express their talents and inner voice (hence title of this project ‘Sauti za Kumoyo’). Many of the traditional music artists have only had the opportunity to show their talents through events, functions and ceremonies and hence reaching only a small population.
Many of the traditional music artists have been discouraged to continue unveiling and using their talents to express their inner voice, limit creativity, earn a living and have official ownership of their works through COSOTA because of limited platforms. This project aims to provide platform for the talented traditional music artists to unveil their talents, strengthen creativity, express their inner voice, promote local traditions, have ownership of their work, improve individual and household income and finally improve music partnership especially with Singeli music and artists.
